Rap-A-Lot event photo

Rap-A-Lot

Saturday April 18th

Rapper 1: THRY | @marcus.theory | Hailing from Charleston, multi-hyphenate artist THRY combines a hypnotic fusion of Black music, with lyrics that probe the depths of purpose, love, and self-discovery. Inspired by André 3000's The Love Below in the 8th grade, and immersed in the magic of FL Studio by the 10th, the DIY visionary now draws deeply from his own journey—including a hard-won quest for sobriety—and icons like Tame Impala, Isaiah Rashad, and The Clipse. THRY’s already robust catalogue — five self-produced albums which feature 20 songs showcasing his potency as a rhymer — has positioned him as one of the city’s premier innovators and someone upon whom to keep a vigilant watch as the genre continues to evolve.

Rapper 2: OGYungGod | @ceelohamm | The craftsmanship of Charleston’s own OGYungGod stems from a lifetime steeped in music. The son of an All-American musician and longtime Burke High School music educator, he grew up on the sidelines of band rehearsals and performances, with the film Drumline locking in his early obsession. Today, his work casts a wide net as he draws from the likes of J. Cole, Cash Cobain, and Kaytranada all the while using music as his venue for raw self-expression. With 8 instrumental beat tapes and EPs showcasing his production prowess and 4 full-length albums that spotlight his potential as a barsmith, the already prolific artist, OGYungGod, has quickly built a name that you should anticipate hearing more often.

Rapper 3: ShogunREW | @showgunrew | Harlem-born, rhymer ShogunRew's music is infused with the raw pulse of the city that spawned him. Since he first began writing rhymes in 2018, the Cassidy and Lil Wayne influenced rapper has used his music as an outlet for the turbulent foster care system he navigated throughout his childhood. He announced his arrival onto the music scene via his hard-hitting 2021 debut Welcome To The Empire. Since then, the recent Charleston-transplant has released a string of ambitious singles culminating with his most recent drop Don't Come Outside, each showcasing increased ability and growth, and continuing to tell his story of resilience.

DJ: Ovets | @ovets.wav | Inarguably one of the more adventurous members of the Low Country's quickly emerging DJ class, the only things predictable about an Ovets set are its unpredictability and subsequent body movement from anyone who hears it. Good luck sitting still when he's on the mix.
